How Split Shipments Are Calculated

A split shipment is an order that ships from more than one distribution center, which means a separate parcel and a separate shipping charge for each one. UltraCart therefore keeps an order together wherever your inventory allows it.

The default behavior​

By default, the shipping packing solution routine consolidates a shipment to a single distribution center (DC) whenever it can:

  • If all items in an order are available at only one DC, everything ships from that DC, even when some of the items are also available from a nearer one.
  • If all items in an order are available from more than one DC, UltraCart calculates which DC is nearer and ships from there. Location Preferences configured on a DC override that distance calculation.

UltraCart calculates a split shipment only when a selection of items in the cart is available solely from separate distribution centers.

Preventing a split at a specific warehouse​

A distribution center can opt out of split shipments entirely. Set No split shipment on the DC and it will not receive any part of a split order: to process the order at all, that warehouse must be able to ship the whole thing. You configure it on the distribution center itself.
